Number Knolwedge Programme

Our Number Knowledge Programme is up and running!!

Thank you for the support you are providing at home with running this programme, the children are putting a super effort into increasing the speed in which they answer their flash card problems.

The goal of the Number Knowledge programme is to provide a way of working with parents to help their children to practice the number knowledge they have been taught in the class and to work on increasing the speed of recall for this knowledge.

How it all works:

In class the children have each been issued with a small plastic bag containing a Flash Card SET- (a set of flash cards) to take home to practice with you.

Each SET focuses on different number knowledge and in some cases a SET may have 3 parts to it- ie, a, b, c    (at times I will also divide these into half again so children are not overwhelmed with the number of cards being worked with)

At home:

When at home please go through the flash cards with your child- put the ones they find easy into one pile, and the trickier ones in another pile, then go through the trickier pile again.

Practice should only take 5mins (or less)   

We are aiming for instant recall – so they should be able to answer within 3seconds.

NUMBER KNOWLEDGE CARDS NEED TO COME BACK TO SCHOOL EACH DAY!!   

Back at school:

We use the Flash cards at the start of our Maths time each day.

Also at least once a week I will test the children to see if they have mastered instant recall of these cards.

• If they have mastered them I will issue them with the next SET they need to practice.
• It they have not yet mastered them I will send them home again to continue practising.

(If children bring home a set and believe they have mastered it before I am due to test them they may see me before school or at the start of lunch and I will test them- their recall must be instant- within 3 seconds)

*A SET will be sent home at least twice even if mastered the first time to make sure this has become established knowledge!

 **Also please note there will be a $5 charge if any cards or sets are lost!

(It has cost a lot of money to set this programme up and we can’t afford to lose any important pieces)
